Beating the Bounds of the Games

‘Yes, this was Hackney Wick, my dears, this was Hackney Wick, do the rounds and beat the bounds, and make the memories stick'. Find out about the colourful characters who lived and worked in the Wick, or Sink, as it was known locally. The Olympic gold medallist Harry Malin, boxer and member of the Eton Manor Boys’ Club; old Etonian Arthur Villiers; Carless, Capel and Leonard – the pioneers of Petrol; Alexander Parkes, the inventor of the first plastic in the world; and the chemist Arthur George Green. Sporting and industrial heroes will be brought to life on this illuminating walk. Bring a picnic lunch.

On the walk
You will need to wear comfortable clothing and suitable walking shoes. If it looks like rain bring a waterproof jacket. Also bring water, food and any medication you might need. Before the start of the walk you will need to fill out a Health Questionnaire. If you have any health concerns it is recommended that you check with your GP before joining. Pedometers will be provided.
