WALK on Saturday 13 November 2010, 2pm

Come for a walk around Hackney Central and discover the secrets of the ancient parish of Hackney. Hear the stories behind buildings like the Hackney Empire, St Augustine’s Tower, St John-at-Hackney Church and Sutton House; and find out about the poor and the great-and-the-good who lived and worked in Hackney (with some buried in the churchyard). Sheep drovers, Charlie Chaplin, Dudley Ryder, William Booth, Francis Beaufort, spies, the Admiral who hired Darwin, immigrants, Austrian aristocracy, the insane, and tales of rags-to-riches and riches-to-rags, plus much more.
