WALK on Saturday 18 July 2015, 11am

Up and Down the Chatsworth Road.

Saturday 18 July

Starts at 11am at Sutton House, 2-4 Homerton High Street. Walk distance 2 miles; time (including numerous stops) about 2-2½ hours

Julia Lafferty and Laurie Elks will lead a walk which starts in Homerton High Street – Hackney’s smartest street 500 years ago – and proceeds up Chatsworth Road, which is rapidly becoming Hackney’s coolest neighbourhood.

The walk starts at Sutton House and we will take a tour up St Barnabas Church Tower and look at Hackney Hospital, once the parish workhouse, and the excellent Victorian pubs of Homerton High Street.

Going up to Chatsworth Road we will take in the exquisite former library building which is now Chats Palace, the former cinema which has been beautifully restored as the Eat 17 restaurant, see the former public lavatory which is now a café and detour up side streets to see a former music hall, an art deco pub and a Victorian vicarage.  We will go on to the Lea Bridge Conservation Area including the Old School House in Lea Bridge Road and the Princess of Wales pub beside the River Lea where the walk will end.
