Objection. The proposed shopfront is not in keeping with the character of the existing building or with the wider street scene and as such would be detrimental to the Conservation Area. An example of a successfully modernised shopfront can be seen at No. 128 immediately adjacent , the original twin of 126-127.

Objection. The design and placement of the extractor flue require improvement.

 

2020/2848 360 Old Street EC1V 9LT Erection of an advertisement hoarding above the building that sits in-between the adjoining premises. (Kim Aukett 020 8356 4740)

Objection. The scale of the proposed signage at such a prominent corner of the Conservation Area would be severely detrimental to the streetscape, harming the setting of the nearby Listed Building. This open space, far from 'an eyesore' as described in the application, provides a bit of relief on a corner already dominated by an outsize advertisement extending around two sides of No. 333 across Old Street.

 

2020/2662 The Stage EC2A 3LP Non material amendment to application 2017/0864 dated 23/3/18 for a mixed commercial / residential / theatre exhibition redevelopment with buildings up to 40 stories in height. The application seeks amendment to the wording of condition 29 to allow submission of the archaeological evaluation up to 12 months after occupation. (Steve Fraser-Lim 020 8356 8093)

Objection. The CAAC acknowledges that this part of the Conservation Area is mixed in character with a variety of building types and scales, including a number of emerging and consented tall buildings. However, the application site represents the missing element of the Great Eastern St - Hewett St - Curtain Road block which should be taken as the context for the development. The form and scale of the Great Eastern St element has no relationship with this context and reads as an uncomfortable insertion into the streetscape. As such the SCAAC objects to this application as it would have a detrimental impact on the character and appearance of this part of the Conservation Area even taking account of the mixed and changing nature of the area.
