18 French Place contributes to the character and appearance of the CA and the scale and character of French Place is a special part of the Shoreditch area which displays a fine grain, scale and appearance which it is important to protect. We are concerned that the scale of the proposed extension is harmful to both the existing building and the character and appearance of the wider area. Whilst we acknowledge the architectural quality of the proposed addition it is considered inappropriate in this instance and the CAAC OBJECTS to the application.

The CAAC raises NO OBJECTION to the proposed building which is considers represents a high-quality piece of new architecture. However, we encourage to LPA to seek further assurance from the applicant that the proposed roof terraces will be maximised to provide an important amenity for occupiers of the building to ensure that the additional worker population does not put undue pressure on local amenities such as open spaces, parks, etc. In addition, we would encourage the LPA to seek contributions towards wider public realm and open space improvements in the local area, again to help ameliorate the additional workforce that the proposed office building would generate.
