De Beauvoir Block, 92-96 De Beauvoir Road, London N1 4EN

The Board of Trustees of the Hackney Society cordially invites you to the Society’s Annual General Meeting on

Wednesday 18th September 2018 at De Beauvoir Block, 92-96 De Beauvoir Road, London N1 4EN

6.30pm for a prompt 7pm AGM start in the cafe, followed at 8pm by a tour of the building to be led by architect Simon Henley of Henley Halebrown.

The De Beauvoir Block  is a network of 33 workspaces, designed and equipped to support individuals and businesses in the creative industries. The complex was created for the Benyon Estate from a row of six early C20 industrial buildings.  Small prefabricated studios, described by the architects as a ‘landscape in microcosm’, were constructed on the roof tops. Minimising heated circulation spaces, this solution has provided highly insulated workspaces, benefitting from natural ventilation and an undisturbed view of neighbouring roofscapes.

The development has won numerous awards including a 2018 RIBA Regional award for its ‘thoughtful rationalisation of the existing buildings [which] allows successful re-use of the cores and provides new circulation, placed externally to maximise floorspace and encourage tenants to move around outside’.

The Benyon Estate are not charging for the Hackney Society’s use of the building and the event is free to all, but donations for a local charity, to be announced on the night, will be collected during the evening.

Please confirm your attendance by Wednesday 11th September 2019 by registering via the registration form below or visiting Eventbrite. Apologies and enquiries by email please to info@hackneysociety.org.

This event is free to all but booking is strongly recommended, and an on-the-night donation to a local charity is appreciated. Members and non-members are welcome, but only paid-up members may vote on matters at the AGM.
